Letters to Michelle

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

From my West Seattle CoolMom.org friends:

Tell First Lady Michelle Obama why families are worried about climate change.

Help us create a “book” of letters, family pictures and children’s artwork to send to our new First Lady Michelle Obama explaining why moms are worried about climate change. We are asking our friends and family to write a personal letter to Michelle to voice our concern about global warming and it’s effects on our families lives and on our planet.

It doesn’t have to be fancy or long (or it can be!) – just heartfelt. Hand write your letter on your child’s artwork, type up a letter for us to print, print/scan artwork photos, include flat artwork from yourself – anything (2D and within 8.5×11inches) that reflects the importance of our natural environment and your concerns about climate change. This is your chance to let your voice (and those of your children) be heard in the new administration…

It is our actions and vigilance that will keep the Obama’s and administration inspired to continue to do the hard work ahead. (samples & key points) Deadline 2/8!! (submission details)

January’s Quiz

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Our January Newsletter quizzed you on the following question:

What is the largest national park within the US National Park Service system?

The Answer is: Wrangell-St. Elias (Alaska)

The Chugach, Wrangell, and Saint Elias ranges converge here in what is often referred to as the “mountain kingdom of North America.” The largest unit of the National Park System, this spectacular wilderness includes the continent’s largest assemblage of glaciers, and greatest collection of peaks above 16,000 feet, including 18,008’ Mount St. Elias, the second highest peak in the United States. 2009 Market Update

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

This is from our friend Doug Perry of Wallick & Volk, Inc.:

Early 2009 will probably mark the lowest mortgage rates will be for the rest of our lives. Many families can now benefit significantly by refinancing their mortgages. The low rates also offer an added incentive to buy a home while prices are down. Home prices in the Seattle area are selling for about 10% less than they were a year ago. Look for prices to stabilize this year.

Thanks for your info, Doug!
